I CAN’T WAIT FOR CHRISTMAS / LOOSE TAPESTRIES

Vacuum Cloud & The Decision (AKA Noel Fielding & Sergio Pizzorno) from the Loose Tapestries, originally asked us to make a simple 10 second loop for social media, to promote their Christmas single ‘I Can’t Wait for Christmas’….but we ended up doing the whole song. We didn’t want to be precious about it, and we all wanted it to be lo-fi and just support the song visually….keeping it slightly underground. The use of bold typography helps emphasise both the comedy and the poetry in the lyrics, and although we turned it round in a couple of days, it manages to capture the joyful sinister nature of the Loose Tapestries. Happy Christmas!

AN EVENING WITH NOEL FIELDING / UNIVERSAL

When asked to create the DVD menus for ‘An Evening with Noel Fielding’, we decided to recreate the poster illustration, by Jim Stoten, in plasticine. This was a daunting task, but it gave us the ability to animate the separate elements without having to deconstruct the original artwork.

WELLCOME TRUST / THE CRUNCH

We were asked to create a launch film for ‘The Crunch’, an initiative setup by Wellcome Trust to raise awareness about how our food, our health and our planet are all interconnected. Through a year of events, experiences and discussions, they hope to educate both children and adults to understand the impact that our diet has on our health and our planet. Working with Blast design, we story boarded, animated and directed the film from a script provided.

LUXURY COMEDY 2 / TONY CURTIS & CURTIS TONY

We made these two puppets for series 2 of ‘Luxury Comedy’. We had to find a balance between functionality and crudeness, as they were meant to be made by a mute internet sensation called Paul Panfer, who remakes Elvis films on his mobile phone. We considered using professional puppeteers, but in the end it was funnier when performed by the shows writer Noel Fielding, and fellow performer Tom Meeten.

Nigel Coan from Nipple, co-wrote and directed Luxury Comedy.

SKY ARTS / JAMES RHODES – PIANO MAN

Again collaborating with Ape Inc, we created the series graphics for the Sky Arts series ‘James Rhodes – Piano Man’. The brief was to reflect James’ approach to classical music, through type and animation. In all there were seven episodes, each with specific chapter animations and expressive typography. This is just a selection of the work created. Produced by Fresh One productions.

WE ARE WHAT WE DO / YOUNG SPEAKERS

A year after ‘We Are What We Do’ trained teenagers to become ‘Young Speakers’ to inspire a whole generation to change…we were asked to make a film to summarise what they had achieved so far.

WE ARE WHAT WE DO / SMALL ACTIONS

This was our first collaboration with the social movement ‘We Are What We Do’. A presentation for teenagers to present to young children about how they can make small changes to make a big change. The ‘action’ animations were partly based on designs from the book ‘Teach Your Granny to Text’, designed by New Future Graphic.

VOLVO / UGLY BEAUTIFUL

We spent 4 months working on 3 spots for the Volvo C30. Based on real quotes commenting on the car, we were asked to come up with concepts and direct the ads. This ad was based on the question ‘Is the car ugly or beautiful?’. Produced at Not to Scale.

WE ARE WHAT WE DO / GROW SOMETHING

These are just 2 animations used as part of the promotion for ‘We Are What We Do’s’ book, ‘Teach Your Granny to Text & Other Ways to Change the World’. We created both the characters and the animation. The books concept was based on the idea of a series of ‘actions’ that we can all do to change the world, bit by bit.

VOLVO / GREYHOUNDS

We spent 4 months working on 3 spots for the Volvo C30. Based on real quotes commenting on the car, we were asked to come up with concepts and direct the ads. This ad was based on the quote ‘It reminds of a greyhound, it’s very muscular back legs.’ Bizarrely, although broadcast in Europe, it was never shown in the UK, as there were concerns it would encourage people to use their cars to race against dogs. Produced at Not to Scale.
